President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga will not dissolve Parliament for another five years contrary to news reports that she was about to dissolve Parliament, said Power and Energy Minister, Susil Premajayantha at a media conference held to commemorate the first anniversary of United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in Anuradhapura yesterday.

UPFA Chairman and Kalutara district MP Nandana Gunathilake said that the UPFA decided to mark the government's completion of one year and express its gratitude to the people who placed great confidence in the UPFA in 2004. He also said that the people of this country who were being taken for a ride with false promises took a wise decision last year to chase away the UNF government which was undermining the country's forward march very badly.

JVP propaganda Secretary and Colombo district MP Wimal Weerawansa said that during the one year period the UPFA government had been able to stop a number of destructive and anti-government policies introduced by the UNP and added that UPFA had been able to regain control of national security and national economy from imperial masters.

He also said that UPFA government was the only one which took the initiative to solve the graduate unemployment problem in the country.

Industry, Tourism and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Bandaranaike referring to some political elements, said some politicians were in the habit of slinging mud at the JVP and SLFP to create a split between the two parties and warned them not to do so. Urban Development and Water Supply Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that the UPFA government had been able to create a strong impression in the minds of the international community.

Minister Gunawardana emphasised that the Budget had set aside a great deal of money for rural development activities needed by the country.
