Zydus Cadila to expand Lankan operations

Zydus Cadila (ZC), one of India's top four pharmaceutical companies with a group turnover of Indian Rs 15,000 million is in the process of expanding its operations in Sri Lanka.

At present the company is in all key segments in the pharmaceutical business including Cardiac, Gastro, Asthma and anti-infective in Sri Lanka, its Executive Director Ganesh Nayak told a media conference. He said that in the last three years ZC's sales in Sri Lanka have doubled and the company recently introduced a range of anti-Asthmatic drugs to the local market.

"Our aim is to offer world class, high quality products to Sri Lanka at a reasonable price. Generic products without being bio-equivalent and pharma equivalent will never offer the same efficacy," Nayak said. Asthma patients in Sri Lanka could also look forward to three more Dry Powder Inhalers and eight Metered Dose Inhalers from the company, he said.

The market for anti-Asthmatics is growing at 10 per cent, while in Sri Lanka Asthmatics constitute around 6.7 per cent of the market, our products are cost effective than those currently available in the market, Nayak said.
