CCC trade mission to Romania and Czech Republic

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) is leading a delegation to participate in 'TIBCO 2005', the International Consumer Fair scheduled in Bucharest, Romania from June 1 - 5, a Chamber spokesperson said. To coincide with this event, the Chamber would also lead a Trade and Investment Promotion Mission to Romania and the Czech Republic.

The main objective of the mission is to strengthen trade ties, establish business links, source suitable business partners for trade, investment, joint ventures, technology transfer and services.

The CCC stall at 'TIBCO 2005', would be projected as the Sri Lankan Pavilion. The stall will spread across 60 square metres, and would be at a prime spot at the Exhibition Centre. CCC's presence at the Fair would be through the courtesy of Nicolae Aldea, Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Romania in Sri Lanka. The stall will focus on Sri Lankan traditional and non-traditional products and the tourism sector.

Sri Lanka's major exports to Romania include tea, desiccated coconut, Natural Rubber (Brown crepe), Retreaded tyres, tyres and tubes, Garments, Leather products, Metal and Plastic Furniture.

Statistics also indicate that Sri Lankan exports to Romania have increased by 58% during 2004. Industries such as Gem and Jewellery, Tourism, Handicrafts, and Coir Fibre Pots also have great potential in the Romanian market.

The spokesperson said that they are targeting 10 exhibitors for the Sri Lankan Pavilion. Exhibitors would also be permitted to sell their products during the event. The final selection of exhibitors will be by the Chamber. As the mission would assist in expanding the existing business contacts, and penetrate into new markets, CCC encourages non-exhibitors to also participate in the mission. The CCC expects a total delegation of 15 members to form this delegation.

At the closure of the Exhibition, the delegation will visit the Czech Republic on June 6 - 7. CCC has sought the assistance of the Economic Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic and Josef Penkava, Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka in the Czech Republic to co-ordinate and facilitate meetings for the visiting Sri Lankan delegation.

The Czech Republic has also been identified as an emerging potential market for Sri Lankan products.
