Art of Facing interviews

The Art of Facing Interviews by Dr Kirthi Premadasa and Daminda Ranasinghe is now being introduced to bookshops.

The book, a fine reference guide for employment seeking youth was inspired by a very successful VCD on the same subject that was previously produced by the Rotary Club of Colombo Down Town. The VCD has to-date been the only locally produced visual reference for career guidance and self development, produced locally.

At its launch Dr Premadasa said that he was influenced into writing the book because university libraries and others lacked an easy to use reference manual for amateur job seekers. The book aims to teach undergraduates the art of approaching the job market successfully in a purely local context. Most youth who come from English speaking cosmopolitan environments today have an edge over the others because of their confidence in communication and the ability to make a striking first impression.

This book gives comprehensive details of all aspects involving facing interviews, writing a CV and a wealth of other career related information.

The book has been written in Sinhala and English to make it accessible to readers of both languages. The book starts off in Sinhala and gradually moves to English so that no apprehension is caused to the reader who is not proficient in English.

A feature of this book is that even though it is meant for an absolute novice, advanced and cutting edge job-search and personality developmenmt concepts are also imparted, not losing the simplicity in presentation, making it a tool for novices and the adavanced alike.

Dr. Premadasa is a pioneer in the field of university career guidance and was the first director of the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Colombo. He was also the district co-chairman of Rotary District 3220 for Career Guidance. Ranasinghe who has written the Sinhala part of the book is a rising Sinhala author who is becoming increasingly popular.

Priced at Rs 150, the book is available at all Suntel centres and leading book stores. All proceeds from the sale of this book will be channelled back to programs organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo Down Town for the development of Sri Lanka's youth.
