HNB will give East West a tough time

by Ranjan Anandappa

Hatton National Bank will be at full strength while East West Marketing will be brimming with confidence when they meet in the 'Singer' sponsored Mercantile Premier limited over cricket final to be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club grounds today (Sunday).

East West Marketing are the league champions while Hatton National Bank will have the services of three of their top players back.

All rounders T. M. Dilshan and Ferveez Maharoof and paceman Lasith Malinga, who were away in New Zealand on national duty, will make their appearance and Test players, opener Avishka Gunawardena, Russell Arnold and Prasanna Jayawardena will also make a welcome return after representing Sri Lanka 'A' in the recently concluded triangular 'A' team series between Sri Lanka, England and Pakistan.

East West Marketing entered the final after an exhilarating win over Janashakthi Insurance in the semi final when Jeevantha Kulatunga blasted a hurricane 151 while HNB defeated the defending champions Samapth Bank in the second semi-final quite easily.

The final should be an absorbing one with some fine allrounders on either side. Saman Jayantha will lead the bankers while Muthumudalige Pushpakumara will captain EWMS.

For East West, Jeevantha Kulatunga, Sajith Fernando, Malintha Warnapura, former Test wicket keeper batsman Lanka de Silva and paceman Ishara Amarasinghe are the stars and the driving force of the league champs.
