Ceylinco launches 'Future School Sri Lanka'

Ceylinco Consolidated's International College of Business and Technology (ICBT) and the Future School based in Australia entered into a MoU to launch 'The Future School Sri Lanka' which will introduce the innovative on-line 'Discovering English' program to the Sri Lankan community.

The MoU was signed by Chairman, Ceylinco Consolidated Dr. Lalith Kotelawala and Future School's International Director Geoff Riddell.

The 'Discovering English' program has been developed by Future School in Australia for several years in partnership with English language experts and professors who advise the Australian Government on English standards and contribute content to English language university entry tests with global recognition.

Addressing a news conference in Colombo, Riddell said that 'Discovering English' is a competency-based learning program which concentrates on the student or user obtaining a strong capacity to speak English. "This is in addition to providing strong comprehension, reading, listening and writing skills for everyday use. These English skills are essential in today's global business and commerce environments.

Discovering English also uses the immersion method of teaching, proven to be the best way of teaching English language", Riddell said.

Stressing the need for competency in the English language, Dr. Kotelawala said that the Future School Sri Lanka would have as its goal, the empowering of Sri Lanka youth with comprehensive all round skills in the English language.

Prof. Ranjith Mendis, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka commended the Ceylinco Group for the timely introduction of this program, which will also support the government and President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's endeavours to re-introduce the English Language to the education system in Sri Lanka.

Prof. Mendis said that English has now become a compulsory subject for the GCE O/L examination to pursue higher education in Sri Lanka.
