Entries for the 13th annual NCE Export Awards 2005, which this year is open to non-members of the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka is scheduled to take place on October 28. Applications for entry will close on July 25.

The awards this year will be the most outstanding exporter - gold and silver awards; best Sri Lanka brand exporter; most outstanding exporter, sector wise - making up eight gold awards; best woman exporter - gold. A number of new sub-sectors have been introduced in the general sector category, as spelled out by NCE president, Kingsley Bernard, while a new sector to accommodate the current growth trend in the service outsourcing sector has been introduced.

In the current year, awards have been focused for foreign exchange earnings from consultancy, service outsourcing, call centres, ship repairs, employment agencies, telecommunication and share trading, chairman of the awards committee, Mario de Alwis said.

The organising committee has also given due recognition to what they called the vital necessity of brand marketing, communication, delivery, speed and connectivity in the challenging globalised market environment by enhancing the service provider category with the introduction of sub sectors such as courier services, telecommunication, packaging, printing and trading and advertising, past president, Felix Yahampath said.

In the general industry sector, value-added efficient utilisation of local resources and contributions to society have been considered by shipping sub-sectors in agriculture, tea, gems and jewellery and in apparel, to value-added and traditional, quota and non-quota. While a new category for information technology has been introduced, manufactured rubber products such as tyres and personal protective products have been separated in recognition to the contribution this industry makes through enhanced export earnings, road safety and the prevention of the spread of contagious diseases.

Coinciding with the export awards, a national exporters' forum is planned while a mini exhibition is also planned. ANCL is the principal media sponsor for this event.
