Sarah's success

by Mahes Perera

Charles Mark with Sarah.

She's crazy about Hindi music, loves Aisha the singer and has acquired loads of audio cassettes of Hindi music when she was living in Kuwait with her parents. In fact her mother tells us that she used to send the maid out to buy a new audio cassette as soon as it reached the racks! Her ambition in life is to be a singer and she's teenager Sarah Beute now being musically befriended by the Prague winners Charles Mark.

Sarah Beute was born in London, her parents are from Holland, they were in Kuwait for some time and are now in Sri Lanka. It's been nearly two years, their stay in Sri Lanka, and whilst studying at the British School, Sarah is recording tracks for her debut album with a lot of guidance and encouragement from Charles Mark. In fact she is recording the tracks at their studio and working on it fast to get it off the ground end of June.

"My song Teenage Love was aired last July and I have two other songs Missing You the tsunami ballad and Do Not Mess With Me Honey. My CD is going to be quite different. Most of the tracks are hip-hop and R & B and the lyrics are written by me. I get assistance from Charles Mark and we get on like a happy family," remarks Sarah when we catch up with her for a chat.

Lyric writing seems to come easily for some one so young. "I think of a topic, start writing the lyrics and then compose the music," continues Sarah, who confesses that she loves it here in Sri Lanka, and would enjoy living many years here.

Sarah's performances on our stages have been at Reach Out 2 at John de Silva Theatre, Musicians For The People Concert for tsunami aid at the Race Course, with Charles Mark, also at other corporate functions. At the British School she is on a track that involves maths, so far removed from music and she manages both areas with a lot of finesse. Friendly and bubbling with ideas we hope her new debut CD containing originals will be a sell out success for her.

"I'm marketing the CD through the Sony label and I hope my CD which at the moment hasn't got a title will turn out to be popular," concludes a happy Sarah Beute.
