Labour Minister secures jobs in Malaysia A massive employment generation program for the benefit of Sri Lankan youth will be initiated by the Sri Lankan Government in Malaysia under the supervision of Labour Relations and Foreign Employment Minister Athauda Seneviratna during his three-day visit in the country commencing tomorrow (May 30). The 3-member labour delegation consists with Labour Ministry Additional Secretary, Padmini Ratnayaka and Chairman, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Prof. Bandula Karunathilaka is expected to meet the officials of several employment agencies in Kuala Lampur to discuss about available employment opportunities. It is reported that a large number of jobs in Malaysia are presently available in garment, construction and the plantation sectors. Minister Seneviratna is also expected to hold discussions with Human Resources Minister, Dr. Fong Chanonn and Foreign Affairs Minister, Seri Azmibin Khalid and sign a bilateral agreement with the Malaysian Government, focusing much attention on skilled jobs for Lankan workers during the next two years. Meanwhile a Senior Bureau official said that nearly 10,000 Sri Lankans are employed in Malaysia and 4000 of them are staying with their invalid work permits and visas. A.K |
