TAFREN on livelihood recovery program Elaborate discussions were held at the Government secretariat in Jaffna last week by the TAFREN on livelihood recovery program in the tsunami hit areas in the north, informed sources said. The discussions were held by the TAFREN Director Darmasiri Wickrematillake and it was attended by the Government Agent of Jaffna V. Ganesh, senior government officials and the representatives of both foreign and local non governmental organisations, sources said. According to sources the discussions were based on carrying out the livelihood recovery programs at village, district,and divisional levels to build up the rehabilitation activities in the tsunami hit areas in the north. A committee has been also set up in Jaffna to study the program in detail and to submit its report on June 13. The committee in Jaffna would be headed by the Government Agent and two northern based non governmental agencies, Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) and Ootru along with CARE and Four Root would take part in the committee sources said. The intention of this program would be exploring the measures of expediting the relief activities in the tsunami hit areas in the north making the livelihood recovery programs effective. Meanwhile similar livelihood recovery programs would also be created in Batticaloa and Galle the other regions severely devastated by the tsunami sources said. |
