Golden Lotus award for Sinhala writers Swarna Padma Sansadaya, initiated and sustained by art loving Sri Lankans domiciled in Australia has launched their project to recognize the best Sri Lankan Sinhala writers of novels, short stories and poetry. The authors of the best writings for these fields will receive cash prizes and Swarna Padma (Golden Lotus) Awards at a literary festival to be held in Colombo in September 2005. The award for the best novelist in 2003 will also be given in this festival. The best novelist will receive Rs. 50,000 with the Golden Lotus award, while best short story writer and the poet will receive Rs. 25,000 for each category respectively with Golden Lotus awards. An independent panel will judge the books suitable for the awards. The books to be considered for this award should be published in 2004 and registered in the National Archives Department. Two copies of books may be sent for each field separately to the Coordinator - Swarna Padma Sansadaya, 15/1 Raja Mawatha, Pitakotte before June 25, 2005 under registered cover. Applicants may prepare their own applications and should include information such as name of author, title and category, name of the publisher with year of publishing, address and contact phone number of the Author. Cyril Gunaratne, Jayasree Chandrajith, Karu Liyanarachchie, and Bandu Dissanayake are among the Sri Lankans domicile in Australia who coordinate with Sri Lankan counterparts. |
