Haifa award
for local cartoonist
Sri Lankan Cartoonist Ruwan Tharaswin received an 'honourable mention
award' for his presentation to the 'Haifa 2004', the 10th International
Cartoon Competition held in Israel, organised by the Israel Haifa
Municipality", and Israel Cartoon Association 'Pencom' in collaboration with
the Israel National Commission for UNESCO. The competition was held under
the theme 'Environmental protection, Nature reserves, Ecology' and entries
were received from a large number of cartoonists from 52 countries.
Tharaswin's cartoon, published in the winning cartoon collection,
depicted a large natural forest as viewed from the sky, with smugglers
having deforested the middle of it, leaving only the bottom part of the
frees with the roots. The forest from above looks like a human skull.
Tharaswin who is attached to the Dinamina Editorial has received numerous
national and international award at cartoon competitions held in West
Germany, America, Israel, Japan, Switzerland and Iran. This is his 16th
award.
