Mihintale Aloka Pooja on a grand scale Everything has been arranged to hold the 43rd `Aloka Pooja' (offering of light) in Mihintale holy premises by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) from June 20 to 22 celebrating the Poson Festival in grand level. The program will be under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Rajamaha Vihara Ven. Namalwewe Ratanasara Thera and the program is sponsored by the Abans Group Ltd. which is the largest single advertiser to the ANCL newspapers. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse will inaugurate the Aloka Pooja program on June 20 and Power and Energy Minister Susil Premajayantha will be there on June 21 to witness the day's program. Anuradhapura Government Agent U.D. Yapa, ANCL Chairman Janadasa Peiris and CEB Chairman Ananda Gunasekara will participate in the final day programs. This is the 43rd Aloka Pooja by the ANCL at Mihintale and the program is collaborated by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. The donation of clothing worn to observe Sil for over 250 Dhamma School children will also take place parallel to the Aloka Pooja under the sponsorship of the Public Trustee. The oratorical contest among North Central Province was held on June 11 in two categories and prizes and certificates will be awarded at a function on the final day of Aloka Pooja. Sri Lanka insurance together with the Anuradhapura District Secretariat will operate a public address system to assist the thousands of pilgrims and main address station would be situated between the Sri Maha Bodhiya and the Ruwanweli Mahaseya with a number of sub stations at strategic locations: Mirisawetiya, Isuruminiya, Sinhakuluna and Thuparamaya. |
