Lalith K admires President's courage Post-Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS) is the need of the hour to avert the possibility of an outbreak of war again, Ceylinco Group Chairman Lalith Kotalawala told the Sunday Observer. He said that the private sector feared the possibility of war again. War would put the economy of the country in jeopardy and heap more burdens on the poor. Politicians should think of economic development and the people more than achieving their political agendas, he noted. He was commending President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's bold decision to set up P-TOMS to assist tsunami victims saying that all efforts should be made to muster a wider cooperation to ensure peace in the country and help tsunami victims. He said that he admires the President's courage and stand to assist tsunami victims even though one in her coalition defected from the Government. If someone thinks that P-TOMS is a betrayal, he questioned what alternative viable mechanism they can propose instead. Kotalawala said that Sri Lanka had to get its priorities right. Ensuring peace and poverty eradication should be given prominence to achieve greater heights in economic development. He advised people to elect leaders who would lead us with a vision. People get the leaders they deserve. We have to blame ourselves if we get wrong leaders. (JSN)
