SLHF gets ready for South Asian games by Leslie Fernando Sri Lanka Hockey Federation (SLHF) has named a 40-member men's hockey pool in preparation for the South Asian Games to be held in Colombo next April and for other international tournaments. The first residential pool practices will be held on July 16 and 17 at Bernard Aluvihare Stadium Matale. Gamini Jayasinghe, the Secretary, Sri Lanka Hockey Federation (SLHF) said that the selection committee of the SLHF headed by G. H. Jayatissa (Chairman) M. F. Laheer, Bgrd. R. Fernando, A. M. Ansar and Marlene Machado selected the forty players on the current performances. At first it will be a residential pool training on weekends and later residential coaching camp will be held. Trials for women The national level women hockey players are requested to attend trials conducted by the SLHF on June 19, 25, 26 and July 3 at the Astro Turf Reid Avenue, commencing from 9. a.m. The players should contact the Secretary, SLHF, Gamini Jayasinghe for further details. Junior 'stickers' to Bangladesh Sri Lanka Junior hockey players are invited by the Bangladesh Hockey Association to participate in the under-18 Invitation Hockey Tournament to be held in August in Dakha, Bangladesh. The Asian Hockey Association has sanctioned the tournament and teams from India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will play in the tournament. Selection trials have been arranged in Matale on July 2, 3, 9 and 10 and schools hockey players are invited to attend, said Gamini Jayasinghe. Hockey calendar The Sri Lanka Hockey Federation has finalised the dates to hold the Junior, Senior (men's) and women nationals for the year 2005. The 33rd Junior Hockey Nationals will be conducted by the Badulla Hockey Association from 25 to 28 August at Vincent Dias Stadium, Badulla. The 49th Senior National Championships will be held in Matale from September 14 to 18. It will be conducted by the Matale Hockey Association. The Women's Hockey Nationals conducted by Colombo Hockey Association will
be held from August 12 to 14 at the Astro Turf, Reid Avenue. |
