Circular to make 32,000 employees permanent out on Tuesday by Ananda Kannangara The much awaited Public Administration Ministry circular, which directs all Government sector institutions to absorb 32,000 employees in the casual and temporary grades into the permanent cadre will be released on Tuesday (June 28). A ceremony to mark the release of the circular to Heads of departments, Ministry Secretaries and trade union representatives will take place at the Ministry auditorium on June 28 at 10.00am under the patronage of Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda. According to the circular, the 32,000 labour force currently in the casual and temporary grades and who have been employed in Government departments, Ministries, Local Government institutions, Corporations and Statutory boards with a continuous employment period of 180 days will be made permanent from July 01. In an interview with the Sunday Observer Minister Dodangoda said that around 65 per cent workers in the Ministries and Government departments would be made permanent under this scheme, while 35 per cent workers in Corporations and statutory boards would benefit. "This scheme will immensely benefit at least 70 per cent workers, employed as peons and labourers," he said. It is also reported that several workers who were not made permanent during the past 13 years will also benefit under this scheme. |
