London blast: No response from Sri Lanka HC Emergency assistance telephone numbers of the Sri Lanka High Commission in London were dead when the Sunday Observer tried to inquire about Sri Lankan casualties of the London bomb attack. The Foreign Ministry issued a press release on Friday and informed the public that anyone who needs assistance should call on 0044-2072621841 or 0044-2072620875. The Ministry has also given British Authority Information Desk number 08701566344. When the Sunday Observer tried the two numbers of the Sri Lanka High Commission around 1.15 pm yesterday to ascertain whether any Lankans were injured or killed in the attack, one phone had been connected to the voice mail and the other kept on ringing but no officer was there to answer the phone. When contacted on the British Authority Information Desk, the officer asked the Sunday Observer journalist to contact the Sri Lankan High Commission for information on Sri Lankans. When said that nobody was there to answer phones she expressed dismay at Sri Lankan officers irresponsibility. |
