Afghanistan woos Lankan workers by Ananda Kannangara Sri Lankan professionals will get an opportunity to be employed in Afghanistan under a new employment contract to be signed between the Governments of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan shortly. This was announced at a meeting, held at the Labour Ministry auditorium by Labour Relations and Foreign Employment Minister Athauda Seneviratne. Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Haider Reza and Deputy Minister of Labour Walmohe Rasooli represented the Government of Afghanistan at the conference. Vacancies for Lankan professionals are currently available in the fields of electricity, health, universities, education and in the agricultural sectors. Speaking to the 'Sunday Observer', Minister Seneviratne said that Afghanistan would be an addition to the lists of countries to open employment opportunities in Sri Lanka and arrangements have already been made to sign the job contract shortly to enable our workers to take up new appointments as early as possible. During the discussions, Afghan Deputy Labour Minister Rasooli informed Minister Seneviratne that in addition to professionals, the services of Lankan skilled workers will also be sought to assist the Afghanistan Forces who are currently engaged in bomb disposal activities. He said that the services of Lankan skilled workers would also be utilised for building construction fields. |
