SSP hard on errant cops

by Deraniyagala Roving corr.

Policemen should be dedicated and loyal in their duties. They should avoid involving themselves in paying patronage to a selected people who hold positions in society. They should perform their duties to the satisfaction of all and win the confidence of the public. "I will not hesitate to take firm action against any policeman who are found guilty of social offence. It is the bounden duty of every policemen of all ranks to be honest and should not allow room to tarnish the image of the service, which has a long and distinguished image.

These remarks were made by Kegalla District SSP Wilfred Mahanayake addressing policemen of Deraniyagala during his inspection, held recently.

The SSP said every attempt and regular raids should be conducted to eliminate the illicit brew menace from the area. "I have information that kassipu is transported to other areas and this reflects badly on the police. I would instruct the OIC and his men to be vigilant about these activities. This is a solemn duty of you," the SSP told the policemen.

He also instructed policeman to be active and quick in the disposal of complaints from the public. Delay in resolving disputes he said will lead to major crimes.
