The fines collected from 40 traders range from Rs. 1,000-50,000 depending on the offence committed. CAA conducts these raids to protect consumers from errant traders who exploit the consumers and conduct business against the rules of law. The CAA conducted raids in Panadura, Kurunegala, Kaduwela, Kekirawa, Balangoda, Negombo, Ja-Ela, Attanagalla, Pelmadulla, Ruwanwella, Matugama, Kegalle and Colombo. The CAA hopes to expand the raids to other areas while making the CAA efficient. The offences include non-display of goods lists, increasing prices without the permission of the CAA, non mentioning of prices, breaking rules on labelling and display of goods, keeping goods and not selling them, and selling goods at higher prices. The CAA has filed action against the traders as they have violated the rules laid down by the CAA said a spokesman for the Central Information and Media Unit of the Information Department. SG |
