Renault's latest Megane and Laguna models

One of the safest and most protection conscious European cars - Renault and its latest models Megane and Laguna are available in Sri Lanka.

Reno - R4, a four-door small elegant wagon attracted vehicle lovers for its beauty, creativity and power, in the nineteen eightees when it appeared in the Sri Lankan car market.

Its innovative look, very high performance and high fuel consumption were remarkable according to the Reno-R4 owners. Some R4 owners keep it as a souvenir even today in their car collections.

Renault

Safety is the starting point of every car designed and built by Renault. The active factors handling, braking and other characteristics which allow the driver to avoid or manoeuvre their way out of danger are considered separately and in conjunction with the advanced passive safety systems that constitute the most comprehensive all contingency safety systems in motoring today.

Today's Renault car could boast of performing special functions thereby making driving a pleasurable and danger free task. For example - a rain detector switches on the windscreen wipers automatically, a light sensor switches on the car's powerful double optic headlamps. Renault also helps to make the roads safer by providing road safety lessons for primary schoolchildren in twelve European countries.

In the event of a crash the vehicle structure becomes the critical element in the overall safety system. The occupants of a modern Renault car sit within a central steel safety cell. This necessarily, is extremely rigid but that rigidity is carefully offset by the way in which special elements within and around it deform, progressively and in a controlled way, to absorb the energy created by the impact. The protection offered by Renault protection system is literally tailor-made.

The reaction of the elements within the system inertia seat belts, load limiters pre-tensioners, adaptive airbags and anti-submarining features are adapted to the individual physique of the wearer as well as the severity, or otherwise, of the impact.

Thus the system is equally effective in minimising the risk of physical injury regardless of the age or physique of the wearer.

Renault has also developed a range of seats that are compatible with the Isofix system and are specially designed for young children.

The benefits of these advanced safety systems far from being theoretical, witness the fact that the Renault Laguna, Vel Satis, New Megane, New Espace and now New Scenic have all been awarded the maximum score of five stars in the independent Euro NCAP tests.

Renault Megane

In the new Megane it finds its most advanced expression. Disc brakes all round are standard as is ABS with EBD, Electric brake distribution.

Their effectiveness is enhanced by Emergency Brake Assist, this feature reduces braking distance by measuring the speed at which the break pedal is applied thus ensuring that in emergency situations maximum braking pressure is applied.

The engine and the gear box through which considerable power is delivered are perfectly matched in every new Megane. Equipped with an electronic throttle - control an VVT (Variable Valve Timing) at each of their respective output levels, the multi valve petrol engines. 1.6 VVT 115 and 2.0 VVT 136 deliver smooth and efficient acceleration, relaxed top-end performance and as a result, safe overtaking effortless cruising and all-round driving pleasure.

Renault Laguna

The Laguna's outstanding reputation for safety is built upon an immensely strong chassis, constructed in shock-absorbent, ultra high elastic steel.

The Laguna is the first car to use this advanced material and it adds an extra dimension of effectiveness to the 'crumple zones' which cocoon the Laguna's cabin. Extra security is provided by Brake Assist which together with ABS, is standard on all models.
