Prasanna and Diresh launch their second CD

by Mahes Perera

Fast on the heels of their successful debut album Mal Karaththayak, the brothers Sebastian popularly known in the music industry as Prasanna and Diresh have launched their second album Sihilel Sendewe which they hope will be as popular as their maiden effort.

The brothers have established their own recording studio called Madonna Audio Productions and the new CD has been released under this label. Like in their early CD the songs on the new CD are basically love songs in ballad and fast rhythms which are attractively arranged. Some of the tracks from the new CD are already being aired on radio, and the videos on television stations.

Hailing from Ja-ela, Prasanna and Diresh were committed to music when they were in school and were active members of the choir of St. Joseph's Church, Ja-ela. They got a lot of support from their parents and grandparents, and in fact as they tell us they were nurtured in a home that echoed with music.

Both brothers are extremely versatile in thei repertoire.

They sing in Sinhala, English, Tamil and Hindi and are popular figures at weddings and private functions, entertaining the many appreciative guests.

On a serious note Prasanna and Diresh feel that today it is hard for talented youngsters to break into the music scene because of the tough competition, which they themselves experienced, and as such, with the establishment of their company they have decided to go all out and assist talented youngsters who need exposure and want to pursue a career in music.

Through their first CD Mal Karaththayak new- comer Anoma Damayanthi got the opportunity to break into the music scene and now she is a recognised singer.

What the brothers feel is that both the print and electronic media should play an enthusiastic and bigger role in promoting new talent, so that the industry could develop on a wider scale. There's room for more in the scene.

Prasanna and Diresh hope to launch a new DVD as soon as possible and they have invited Kanchana Mendis, Shanika Wanigasuriya and the dance troupe Sensation to take part in the filming of the videos of some of the songs.

New CD from Kumara

Kumara EkanayakeKumara Ekanayake of KET fame released his latest CD Kata Poddak recently. This is the third CD released by keyboardist Kumara who has been on the scene for the past eighteen years. The songs on the CD were recorded at Kumar's studio and produced by S. Entertainment. Four songs from his latest CD are now being aired on radio and on TV Channels. The songs are also on the charts and the title song Kata Poddak is predicted to hit the high spots on the charts soon.

"I recently filmed a new video clip for Dillenne Tharakavi and I"m certain my fans will like this clip because the well-known actress Kanchana Mendis is featured in a lead role. We did a few overseas shows and with S. Entertainment who produced the album, we are scheduled to perform at two more overseas shows. The response for our CD has been good so far, and fans are crazy about the title song Kata Poddak", Kumara tells us.

The trio KET have over the past years had a successful career, playing at many dances, weddings and concert shows. The trio comprises Stephny the female glitz and vocalist, Thushara Pieris - guitar/vocals and Kumara -keyboards and vocals, and are currently busy working their schedule of many dates.
