Exporters to showcase products at BIA by Don Asoka Wijewardena In a bid to provide international level marketing facilities to Sri Lankan exporters, showroom spaces for exporters as well as small scale and medium entrepreneurs will be set up at the Bandaranaika International Airport, (BIA) said Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development Minister Rohitha Bogollagama. Minister Bogollagama said that based on a budget proposal for the year 2005 to provide marketing support for exporters trade stalls replete with export products would be set up for the convenience of different categories of exporters who had been an important source in earning a great deal of foreign exchange to the country. Referring to the objective of his ministry, Minister Bogollagama pointed out that export promotion was extremely important to develop export sector and added that by setting up trade stalls at the airport, Sri Lankan exporters would be able to showcase their high quality products at international level. Minister Bogollagama also noted that trade stalls would commence operation immediately after passenger technical development project was completed and Sri Lanka Export Development Board would be expected to finalise the selection of exporters by September this year and added that by November the new project would be in operation. He said that he visited BIA with Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Shalitha Wijesundara and Export Development Board Chairman Brian Angunawela to inspect the allocated area. |
