Diyawadana Nilame promises more pomp and pageantry

Newly elected Diyawadana Nilame of Dalada Maligawa, Kandy, Nilanga Dela Bandara said that this year's Kandy Esala Perahera festival would be conducted with more pomp and pageantry. This year's Kandy Perahera is scheduled to commence with traditional 'Kap planting' on August 5.

Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela Bandara who was elected 19th Diyawadana Nilame of Dalada Maligawa will assume office today in the presence of Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and Most Ven. Udugama Sri Ratanapala Buddharakkhitha Thera, Mahanayakas of Malwatta, District Secretary A. M. L. P. Polgolle. Diyawadana Nilame Dela Bandara said that he would take all possible steps to add more colour and glamour to this year's Kandy Perahera.

The inner peraheras within the precincts for the four devales will be conducted from August 5-9. The first Kumbal perahera will be conducted along streets on August 10 which will continue till 15. The Randoli Perahera will be conducted from August 16 to 20.
