Labour Relations and Foreign employment Minister Athauda Seneviratna distributed the letters of appointment to the graduates at a ceremony held on Friday at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Auditorium, Battaramulla. The graduates were selected from the Government's Graduates Employment Scheme, initiated last November. Addressing the audience, Minister Seneviratna described how the Government faced numerous obstacles when initiating such a massive employment program for graduates for the first time in Sri Lanka and said that the Government's prime objective was to strengthen the entire public sector that maintains close rapport with the general public. He said due to the carelessness of a large section of public servants, the state sector is deteriorating and some employees were drawing salaries without performing a proper service to the country. According to the duties, the graduates will have to start various career guidance programs in their respective districts, help people to start self employment projects, provide welfare assistance to the families of migrant workers etc. The audience was also addressed by Graduate trainees, representing the Southern and Northern district universities in Sinhala and Tamil Languages. |
