Athletic Nationals : No records established by Leslie Fernando Despite no records established there were good performances from Damayanthi Darsha of Track Masters SC, Gayan Perera of Sri Lak AC, Rohan Pradeep Kumara of Track Masters and Prasanna Amarasekera of Sri Lanka on the penultimate day of the three day 83rd National Athletic Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday. Darsha staging a comeback after lapse of one year, ran a good race in the 200 metres. She had no opposition from the rest and won it easily 'clocking' 23.79 secs. Gayan Perera who has represented Sri Lanka at the SAF Games and the Asian Championships performed well in the men's discus throw. He had good throw of 52.31 metres, his personal best and missed setting a new mark. Gayan a former Wickremaseelee Central Giriulla athlete missed T. F. Alailama's record of 52.47 metres. Rohan Pradeep Kumara of Track Masters and Prasanna Amarasekera of Sri Lanka Army won their respective heats in the 400 metres, the events much looked forward by the athletic fans. Rohan timed 46.70 secs while Prasanna had a time of 46.71 secs. Today it is going to be a interesting race in the last event of the day when both will clash to prove their superiority in this event. Today 15 finals will be worked off with 10000 metres for women commencing at 8.30 a.m. The morning sessions will end round 10 a.m. and the afternoon sessions will commence at 2.00 p.m. and the distribution of awards fixed at 6.10 p.m. Ambassador Federal Republic of Germany Juergen Weerth in Sri Lanka will be the chief guest. |
