Property owners beware

by Anura Maitipe

A well organised gang is alleged to have attempted to sell properties of locals living abroad by preparing false documents. The Police Fraud Bureau (PFB) alerts the public to such land dealers and appeal to the public to inform about them to the PFB, a spokesman for the PFB told the Sunday Observer.

He said that the PFB had received complaints from residents in Colombo and Kurunegala regarding such illegal land transactions. Now the PFB is probing these complaints.

Through investigations the PFB has detected that certain land dealers and government officials were involved in these illegal transactions of properties belonging to others, he added.

Most of these properties belonged to locals who lived abroad. Some of these properties belonged to victims of July 83 riots who had fled the country, he added.
