Lakland adds more value to precious gems

The Lakland Gem Craft (LGC) stall at the Facets 2005 gem and jewellery trade fair not only attracted visitors but also added more value to precious gems and created beautiful pictures. Lakland is the first company to start this artistic production by using precious and semi-precious gem stones found in Sri Lanka. The company has the patent rights for the product.

LGC chairman G.J. Athurupana said that the gem studded work of art is unique and was found for the first time in the history of gem craft. Only natural gem stones are used in all these works of art. In the art work, the natural scenery and the lifestyle of people are reproduced by using natural coloured gem stones.

A qualified gemmologist certifies all gem stones for their authenticity and all the art work is created by a team of artists. "You can select pictures from a collection of standard creations or have your own dream picture or portrait done with the preferred gem stones", Athurupana said.

Gem crafts are upmarket products and the value of the art work is over Rs. 150,000. Some of the pictures in the collection of standard creations are tusker elephant with a relic casket, horses and carriage, a still picture from the film "Ben Hur", fresco mural, a temple fresco in Sri Lanka and the Sigiriya frescoes. Gem stones are carefully fixed on glass, metallic surface or paperboard by using a special solvent cement formula. The standard sizes are 30cm x 20 cm x 1cm to 1.5m x 1m x 2cm or you can order any size of your choice.

LGC offers a re-purchase guarantee on every picture and offers not less than double the original price after 15 years.

Athurupana said that the company clinched several orders from local and foreign customers at the Facets 2005 trade fair. (GW)
