'Innovations UOM' brings out diverse talents of graduands :

Not merely another exhibition

'Innovations UOM 2005' would be a novel experience for all in the architectural field. It is organised by one of the best technical universities in the country; University of Moratuwa displaying the talents of young graduands and academic researchers who have engaged in a number of projects.

The event which is scheduled to be held at the BMICH from Sept. 16-18 daily as it comprises meeting a national need to provide technological expertise to all industries and organisations and promoting a proactive research and development culture in the country.

According to the organisers it would also include enhancing and creating new partnerships with industries, joint mature projects and at the same time promoting awareness to the country's industry and the public about the university's latest projects.

The exhibition which is supported by Sri Lanka Investors Commission, several ministries and the public, would have prototype and design in relation to industry applications, consumer foods, social health, sports, defence, agriculture, medicine, fashion, creative designs with Information Technology.

According to the Electrical Engineering Department's Senior Lecturer Dr. Lanka Udawatta, their motivation is to bring new and creative ideas of university young graduands and academic researchers in the public and become a part of a long tradition of intellectual rigour and creative achievement.

He further said that they had also arranged meetings with industrial decision-makers, while 33 workshops were arranged on several subjects in three days. Several seminars have also been arranged to educate the subject professional and the public on the university's role today.

According to Dr. Udawatta, the university which comprises of three faculties is ready to start more than 100 projects in different science and engineering disciplines. "Some projects we are planning to show will be especially on control systems, image processing, signal processing artificial intelligence and system automation."

Dr. Udawatta also explained about the project which was introduced in an attempt to come out from the nutshell and motivate the community


G-Cube

by conducting researches to work in the field of robotics. It was a prototype robot for Robot Soccer completion for the middle-sized league. He also showed a developed robot module with a sensory fusion system for 3D object modelling by the University's postgraduate students.

The organisers also added that the exhibition would bring a number of items you had never thought of. Among those a driver testing software program, a compressed air engine made out of a four stroke motorcycle engine, a bed sheet for Asthma patients and many other new things.
