Interns to rural hospitals The Health Ministry yesterday (10) decided to deploy medical interns to Rural Hospitals in the face of an unjustifiable islandwide strike launched by the Registered Medical Practitioners (RMP) stated a communiqu‚ issued by the Health Ministry. The RMPs claimed that the Government had not rectified their salary anomalies. The Ministry communique further stated that no medical service had been disrupted as a result of the strike and no hospital was closed as stated by the striking RMPs to the media. The RMPs had been working at Government Dispensaries and few dispensaries were closed down following the strike. The Health Ministry also condemned the strike action by the RMPs at a time the recommendation of the Tissa Devendra Committee, which was appointed to look into the salary anomalies of the RMPs, had been sent to the Ministry of Public Administration for approval. |
