SLCJ, Fojo courses for journalists Sri Lanka College of Journalism (SLCJ) together with Fojo (Sweden) is conducting a series of mid career training workshops for journalists at the Sri Lanka Press Institute. The recently concluded Workshop on Feature Layout, which was held from September 5-9, 2005 concentrated on new feature layout innovations and its appropriate application into the layouts of local newspapers introduced by Fojo media expert Marit Blomquist and facilitated by local journalist Ameen Izzadeen. unique features of the course was its blend of theoretical and practical aspects on feature layout, where application of new techniques and ideas were encouraged to keep in line with the different styles of local newspapers. The core subjects of the course included: Differences and similarities of feature and news layouts, how to catch the reader with headlines, etc., the uses of different colours and its meanings, the appropriate usages of fonts in headlines, body texts, etc., different ways of using pictures attractively and lively, etc. The courses are targeted towards individuals who are already in the media. Up coming workshops will be on Advanced Infographics from October 24-28, Advanced Photo Journalism from November 28 to December 02 and Writing News Scripts for Radio/TV from December 05-09.
