Techno 2005 to introduce quality products

Techno 2005 exhibition Organising Committee Chairman Kosala Abeysiriwardena said that the main objective of the event would be to bring local and foreign engineering technology that is available in Sri Lanka to a single forum and place them before a wider section of people.

He said that the premier Engineering and Technology Exhibition would be held at the BMICH, Colombo on Oct. 21, 22 and 23.In the past nineteen years it attracted wider audience. Techno 2005 would present a unique opportunity to local and foreign industrialists, manufacturers and suppliers to meet professionals and distributors to promote their products and services in the South and South East Asia market.

This exhibition would feature many facets of advances in the spheres of electrical and electronic engineering, telecommunication, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, agricultural and plantation engineering, computer technology and construction service.

Abeysiriwardena said the exhibitions mainly concentrated on the quality of products.

He said foreign manufacturers, suppliers, public sector institutions, universities, engineering faculties, organisations such as NERD and IDB would participate at the exhibition. Awards for the best display of local products, best demonstration, best display of engineering service.

He said the Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka selected yesterday 68 young inventors out of 450 applicants. A panel of judges headed by Moratuwa University Chancellor Dr. Rewatha Wijewardena would select the 10 finalists and their inventions would be displayed at the exhibition. The winner would be honoured as Junior Inventor of the Year. The finalists would be awarded cash prizes and medals.

The awards ceremony will be held on October 28 at Hotel Taj Samudra.

Abeysiriwardena said that the IESL would celebrate its centenary next year.

Celebrations would begin on January 6 and the exhibition would be held at international level. IESL has a membership of 9,000 including 4,000 Chartered Engineers, he said.
