Dates free from Premier

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse directed relevant authorities to take immediate action to permit duty free imports of dates by the private sector to avoid shortage during the forthcoming Ramazan festival.

He made this arrangement consequent to a request by the International Assembly of YMMA Sri Lanka. The Premier also agreed to make arrangements for prayer rooms for Muslim staff in government hospitals.

In the course of the discussion with the Prime Minister the delegation pointed out the necessity of a suitable national education policy acceptable to all communities. They also requested the Prime Minister to consider the establishment of a Muslim and Cultural Ministry.

It was also agreed to hold another round of discussion to discuss further issues relevant to the services and supplies during the Ramazan.
