Musaeus win over Ladies

Musaeus College rowed with great power and courage to carry away major honours and to take away the Marie Musaeus Higgings Challenge Trophy collecting 26 points to Ladies College 14 in the 2nd Regatta held on the Beira Waters yesterday. This year's regatta was organised by Musaeus College.

The champions Musaeus rowers had wins in the 'A' Scull, 'A' Pair and the main event the boa Race. On completion of the fourth race Musaeus was leading 14-6, but Ladies fought back to equal winning the 'B' Four (14 all). The decider was in the main event of the day the Beat Race ('A' Four).

The Museaus Squad comprising of Uvini Atapattu (B), Hiroshi Goonewardene (2), Sachitra Jayatillaka (3), Naduni Perera (S), Menaka Kohona (cox) rowed with great endurance, strength and balance win the Boat Race 'clocking (4.25 secs to Ladies crew 4.30 secs. Ladies crew was represented by Shadeena Mendis (B), Sashini Amarasuriya (2), Savani Dissanayake (3), Gayani Botejue (s), Minuri Amarasuriya. (cox).

The 'star' of the regatta was undoubtedly the captain of Museaus, Uvini Atapattu, who won the 'A' Scull, 'A' Pair partening Hiroshi Goonewardene and the Boat Race along with four others.

Mrs. Nirmali Wickremasinghe, Principal, Ladies College was the chief guest.

'A' scull: Uvini Atapattu of Museaus beat Shiyana Welikala of Ladis (Time: 5:57 secs).

'B' scull: Amenthi Weerasinghe of Ladies beat Sachitra Jayatilake (Museaus) Time: 5:08 secs.)

'C' four: (No point): Senuri de Silva (B), Gabrielle Mohammud Roshni Perera (3) Denise Kock (S) Amayi Mandawala of Ladies Beat Nethmai Lokubalasooriya (b) Srasi Paranamanna (2), Rushani Pathirana (3), Malindri De Alwis (s), Thilini Kariyawasam of Museaus (Time: 5.18 secs)

'A' Pair: Uvini Atapattu (B), Horoshi Goonewardene (s) (Musaeus) beat Shadeena Mendis (B), Sashini Amarasuriya (s) (Ladies): (Time: 4:44 secs).

'B' Pair: Gayani Boteju (B), Swani Disnayake (S) (Ladies) beat Miymru Jayatilake (B), Piyumi Jayasekera (Musaeus) (Time: 4:55 secs.)

'B' four: Varunike Samarasinghe (B), Shayari de Silva (2) Shiyana Welikala (3) Ameuthi Weerasinghe (S) Khyati Wickremanayake (Cox) of Ladies beat Miyuru Jayatilake (B), Vinuri Jayasundara (s) Nilakshika Dheragoda (S), Sanjeevani Kularatne (Cox) of Museaus. (Time: 4:38 secs)
