Antonians rout Ananda 60-0

St. Anthony's College, Kandy ran up a mammoth score of 60 points (5 goals, 5 tries) to nil against Ananda College, Colombo on the opening day of the Schools Tournament Singer-SriLankan Airlines Rugby Sevens with Amaya Hills (formerly Le Kandyan) of Connaisance De Ceylan Ltd. as Associate Sponsors which began at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium in Kandy on Friday.

At half-time, the Antonian led 31-0. Scoring tries for the Antonians were winger Kusal Rankothge (4), centre Nuwan Chamara (2), winger Mohammed Shafroz (2) and fly half and skipper Saheer Reyal (2) who also goaled five of the tries.

The Antonians in this match scored at the rate of 3 points per minute over the hapless Ananda side. The Antonians also ran up the second highest total of the day when they trounced Zahira College, Colombo by 48 points (4 goals, 4 tries) to 7 (1 goal) after leading 22-7 at the breather.

Scoring tries for St. Anthony's College were winger Kusal Rankothge (3) prop Vasabha Senarath (2) scrum half Krishantha Rajapakse (1), prop Niranjan Xavier (1) and lock Dhammika Abeyratne (1). Skipper and fly half Saheer Reyal goalled four of the tries. For Zahira M. Reza scored the try and goalled it himself.

The results of other matches St. Peter's beat Dharmaraja 31-0, Science College beat St. Thomas's College 12-3, Kingswood College beat St. Sylvester's College 22-0, Wesly College beat Dharmaraja College 19-12, Science College beat Vidyartha College 26-20, Isipathana College drew with St. Sylvester's College 5 all.

Ananda College beat Zahira College 19-12, St. Peter's College beat Wesley College 31-7, Vidyartha College beat St. Thomas' College 12-5, Kingsoowd College beat Isipathana 17-5.

Kiddies rugby

Zahira College, Katugastota beat Sri Rahula College 14-0, St. Anthony's College beat Vidyartha College 7-0.
