LTTE backs out of meetings with Army

"Upcountry Peoples' Front was established for the wellbeing of the 1.5m Indian origin people.

Elaborate steps are being taken to conduct the annual 'Pongu Thamizh -2005' renaissance convention in Jaffna. Minister Mangala Samaraweera yesterday accused the Tamil press of presenting distorted reports on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse's speeches and other news stories relating to the PM.

"In a Tamil newspaper Prime Minister is quoted as saying 'I will safeguard the Sinhala nation', whereas he has never used such a term. "Tamil press should abstain from these sort of activities", the Minister said in a press briefing. (SudarOli (SOI) - 15/09/05)

"The Agreement signed between the presidential candidate of the governing party and the JVP is a call for war. So, if Mahinda is elected as president, it will pave the way for a separate state", the TNA parliamentarian Selvam Adaikalanathan thus welcomed the agreement speaking to the press soon after meeting with the LTTE. "There are numerous contradictions between President Kumaratunga's speeches made within the country and those abroad. There is no record that the Tamil people believed in President's word.
