A show case of talent

We are the future" was indeed a welcome change, featuring many artistes, who displayed their talents no end. Be it in solo singing, playing the flute, rendering originals, or playing melodies - it was simply a good show.

The new bands drew the audience with their performances. They were - Seed, 'K' Pound, Stone Cold - comprising year 9 students of St. Peters' College, Colombo 4 who gave a good performance considering their age and they sang well too. Dirty Craig also performed quite well. Bit Blues was a new band and were good, this being their debut performance.

There were new individual performances and they performed with confidence. Melody rendered a solo, while Hiran Kaangarachchi gave a wonderful rendition on the flute, in addition to singing a composition of his own. Ruwan also sang his own composition. Debbie was the back-up singer and this was her debut performance.

Swindley Perera gave a violin performance and did a solo stint. Sunith and Primal who play for the group Boomerang were normally hidden in the back somewhere, but on that day they really showed their inborn talent. Sunith's rendition to the soldiers brought into focus, the fact that soldiers were out their fighting for our country to maintain the territorial integrity of our land.

He emphasised by his rendition that soldiers should be remembered at all times. A minutes silence was observed before he rendered his own composition to the soldiers. The song was sung to the throbbing of Kandyan drums, the thammattama and geta bera.

Eraj was on stage in a different way because this might have been his debut performance on stage and it was good. Dream Team which in no uncertain terms amply supported all the artistes. He gave a wonderful performance with their medley of songs. Chalini and Imran gave a wonderful show of Latin American dance to wrap up a good evening's entertainment.
