Vocational training for NE unemployed youthsSkills Development, Vocational and Technical Education Ministry has taken steps to begin some vocational training courses in the North-East targeting unemployed youth. The Ministry has already allocated Rs. 180 million for the project under the provisions of the President's Fund. The Minister Piyasena Gamage told the 'Sunday Observer that selected short term courses would be conducted in eight districts of the North-East. Trainees will be paid a Rs. 100 allowance per day in addition to bus season tickets throughout the six months training period. Examinations, practical tests and issuing of certificates will be done by the Vocational Training Authority (VTA). The Minister further added that the conducting of courses would be supervised by the relevant government agents.The courses have been drawn up by the VTA, North-East Industries Department, Technical Education and Training Department, National Apprentice and Technical Training Authority (NAITA) and several other NGOs.
