Donation of fishing boats

Kandy South Group Correspondent.

The Rotary Club of Kandy has donated over sixty fishing boats each valued at Rs. 375,000 to tsunami victims in Panama, Potttuvil and Sinnaulay over the weekend. It has also made arrangements to donate twelve more fishing boats to the affected fishermen in the area.

Rotary Club member John Baskaran said that these fishing boats were the latest made of fibre glass and equipped with out board engine and fishing nets. This project has been estimated at Rs. 50 million.

These boats were presented to the affected fishermen by the Kandy Rotary Club President B. D. R. Rajan and funds for which were donated by Rotary Clubs in other countries.

John Baskaran said that this donation will go a long way for the tsunami-affected fishermen to earn their livelihood and make a fresh start.

He further said they have also undertaken many other projects in the Eastern Province with the view of helping the affected people in general.
