Nemsiri Mutukumara no more

Nemsiri Mutukumara, writer, journalist, broadcaster, advertising consultant and former associate editor of the Ceylon Daily News, passed away on Thursday, September 15, at his residence at P. B. Alwis Perera Mawatha, Katubedda, Moratuwa.

He was 70 years, at the time of his death. Nemsiri was educated at Vidyaloka Vidyalaya, Galle and Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa. He worked in the Evening Observer, Sunday Observer, Janatha and the Ceylon Daily News and his journalistic career at Lake House spanned 35 years. Before joining Lake House, he worked in the Post and Telecommunication Department as a Post Master for over nine years.

He was one time Secretary of the Union of Post and Telecommunication (UPTO). Nemsiri was a Founder President of the World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth International Organisation, based in Bangkok, Thailand initiated in Colombo in 1972.

At the time of his death, he was the President of the International Dhammaduta Committee of the World Fellowship of Buddhist headquartered in Bangkok.

He was a Editor, Publisher of the "New World Buddhism" an International Buddhist Magazine published monthly. He had widely travelled in Asia and Europe and was one time Vice President of the Asian Youth Council Headquarters based in Kuala Lumpur and President of the Lanka Taruna Mandalaya, the National Committee at the World Assembly of Youth based in Belgium.

He was an active member of the Ceylon Buddhist Congress, WFB Sri Lanka Regional Centre, Sri Lanka-India Society, Sri Lanka - Thai Society, Sri Lanka-Myanmar Society, Sri Lanka-Korea Friendship Society and Sri Lanka-Japan Friendship Society.

The cortege leaves residence, no. 7, P. B. Alwis Perera Mawatha, Katubedda, Moratuwa at 4.00 p.m. today (Sunday) September 18. Cremation is at General Cemetery, Rawatawatta at 5.00 p.m.
