In less than 30 days of the announcement of the SLFP Presidential Candidate Mahinda Rajapakse, several political parties, trade unions, people's organisations, religious dignitaries as well as hundreds of distinguished citizens have confirmed support to him.

The Prime Minister's Office sources revealed that while the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and Jathika Hela Urumaya pledged support with conditions, most of other parties too had confirmed their support to the Premier to win the Presidential Election.

According to the Prime Minister's media unit, the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, National Unity Alliance, Eelam People's Democratic Party, Lanka Sama Samaja Party, Sri Lanka Communist Party, Desha Vimukthi Janatha Party, Sri Lanka Mahajana Party with several other small parties had agreed to support the SLFP candidate.

They stressed that all the parties which were with them in the People's Alliance and the United People's Freedom Alliance would be for the victory of Mahinda Rajapakse.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Muslim Council president N. M. Ameen who met the Prime Minister last Wednesday had also pledged the party's support to the Prime Minister.

The Muslim representatives had also brought up seven issues to be settled by the PM when elected President. He had agreed. Meanwhile the Government Clerical Service Union in a press release says that Mahinda Rajapakse is a good friend of the working masses and he was always with the working class to hear their grievances.

They further said that following other trade unions who joined to ensure the Prime Minister's victory at the forthcoming Presidential Election they would also join with them.

Media unit sources further revealed that trade union leaders like Bala Tampoe, M. R. Shaa, Ven. Muruttettuwe Ananda Thera and several others met and had cordial discussions with the Prime Minister over the coming election.
