Awards for 35 ANCL news agents

by Deepal Warnakulasuriya

Thirty-five news agents who emerged winners in a competition to provide more classified advertisements to the Sunday Observer received awards appreciating their endeavour for the company last week.

The awards presentation took place at the Taj Samudra Hotel chaired by Associated Newspapers Ceylon Limited (ANCL) Chairman Janadasa Pieris.

According to ANCL Circulation Manager Gamini Perera, agents had been set a target to achieve in a specified period and 35 agents had achieved the target. He said that one of the objectives of the revamping exercise was to increase the classified advertisement base, while increasing revenue for the company as well as the earnings of agents. He said that an almost 50 per cent growth was recorded in the Sunday Observer classified advertisements with the newly introduced separate classified advertisement colour coded section and the competition for news agents.

Chairman Janadasa Peiris said that the gifting of fax machines was belated but in the company's development process more facilities for agents would follow. The Circulation Manager said that the ANCL Sinhala weekly Silumina would too have a similar revamp program of the classified advertisements section from which agents would directly benefit.

ANCL Finance Director Sonali Dissanayake, Development Director Sarath Cooray, General Manager Abhaya Amaradasa, Editorial Consultant Karunaratne Paranavithana Sunday Observer Editor Jayatilleke de Silva, Classified Advertisement Manager K. W. Upali and several others were also present.
