WNS emerge winners of CIMA Strategic Forum 2005

WNS, a leading BPO, emerged champions at the CIMA Strategic Forum organised by the CIMA Students' Society (CIMASS), which was held recently at the World Trade Centre. The winning team from WNS consisted of Rukshani Malewana, Sanjeevan Sumanthiran and Tania Kurukulasuriya. WNS is one of the largest third party BPO service providers in the world and currently ranked No. 1 by NASSCOM.

The Strategic Forum is a new concept designed by the CIMASS to give participants an opportunity to apply essential professional skills such as strategic thinking, decision making and business communication.

Apart from being tested at the CIMA Strategic Level exams, these skills are necessary pre-requisites for any professional career.

The final round, based on the 2001 merger between Hewlett-Packard and Compaq, required the teams to assume a 'consultant' role to provide strategic decisions to a panel acting as a Board of Directors. The final presentations were to be made within a stipulated time-frame.

The main theme of discussion was the possibility of creating long-term shareholder value through the Merger.

The winners, WNS proposed that the merger would NOT result in long term shareholder value and the Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS) who emerged runners-up, proposed otherwise. Both teams displayed a very high level of analytical thinking, under intense competition and questioning.

The panel of judges comprised Channa Amaratunga, Chief Investment Officer-Boston Capital Ltd; Ravi Fernando, CEO- Corporate Branding and Retailing MAS Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. and Alastair Corera, Country Head-Fitch Ratings Lanka Ltd.
