Canada open doors to immigrants by Lionel Yodhasinghe Opportunity for Sri Lankan skilled workers and business entrepreneurs to obtain immigration visa to Canada will be increased soon as the Canadian Government has decided to pass new laws to get more workers and accelerate the country's development projects, President and CEO Canada Wide Immigration and Settlement Inc. Nalaka Weerasinghe told the Sunday Observer. Weerasinghe is an accredited member of Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants. Canadian newspapers reported last week that the country's current immigration levels would rise 40 percent within five years under the new plan to be presented to Parliament next month. Immigration Minister Joe Volpe has told Canadian newspapers that economic growth is being hampered in many areas of vast Canada due to the dearth of skilled workers and therefore the Government should allow more immigrants to come in and participate in the development activities in order to achieve projected economic goals. Weerasinghe, a Sri Lankan immigration consultant domiciled in Canada said that prospective Sri Lankans should use this opportunity before thousands of eligible persons from other countries vie for jobs. During the last 12 years, Weerasinghe has served hundreds of Sri Lankans to immigrate to Canada where they are doing well-paid jobs to send valuable foreign exchange to the country. More than 300,000 Sri Lankan immigrants are currently in Canada and others who look for greener pastures could join them after the Canadian Government introduces the new laws soon, Weerasinghe said. |
