More funds from Japan for tsunami affected by Rashomi Silva The Japanese government on Friday granted Rs 7 million to a Japanese NGO (JEN) engaged in humanitarian activities in the tsunami affected Hambantota. The project objectivity is to support 1100 victims to rebuild their livelihood says Ai Tanaka the chief of JEN, after receiving the grant from Ambassador Akio Suda. "The project will focus on two vulnerable groups, the adults and children" she said. It will provide vocational training facilities to the adults whilst psychosocial support to children and assistance would be given to them to improve their skills in sports as a diversion to their state of mind. Vocational skills would not only help to rehabilitate livelihood but also to get a sense of accomplishment and self reliance, Tanaka explained. Ambassador Suda said Japan was deeply concerned over the devastation tsunami caused to the country, it's people and it's economy. It provided Sri Lanka immediate relief assistance and granted another Rs. 8 billion and a loan of Rs. 9.2 Billion. The grant would be utilised to procure necessary materials and equipments as coir-rope making machines, coconut fibre, seeds, plants and gardening kits for vocational training and sports equipments for children.
