More VRCs at village level by Deepal Warnakulasuriya Realising the Science and Technology Ministry's latest project 'Gamata Thakshanaya' (Science and Technology to village) another Vidatha Resource Centre (VRC) was opened at Bokundara, Piliyandala recently. Science Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitarana who participated as the chief guest at the function said that a fully equipped module VRC will be set up in the premises within a period of four months. The Minister said that the present centre will be running there only for a limited period. The VRC will more to new premises as soon as the buildings were constructed on the 20 acre and provided by the livestock centre. The construction work is conducted by the National Engineering and Research Development Centre. He further said that the Ministry had already set up thirtyseven VRCs islandwide paving the way for the flow of the latest technology to the village. Bokundara Centre is the second centre in the Colombo district. The main problem we face was how to use trustfully the plenty of natural resources in villages as they do not have the technology to utilise these at production level. The Vidatha Program would close that gap', the Minister said at the well-attended function. |
