Police get right : Operation clean-up

The police had done a marvellous job of removing election propaganda material from public places on Friday night so much so that residents, especially in Colombo and its suburbs were amazed to see totally cleaned-up city walls, roundabouts etc early Saturday morning.

Huge quake kills thousands in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, India, Oct 8 (AFP) A powerful earthquake measuring at least 7.6 on the Richter scale killed over 1000 people across India's Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan on Saturday, the state's top civil servant told AFP.
