Rukmal Cooray loses in semi-finals

The finalists were found in both the boys and girls singles events at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) under-18 championships conducted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Greenpath yesterday.

Rukmal Cooray the only Sri Lankan to enter the semi-finals of the boys singles lost in straight sets (3-6, 3-6) to Chinese Taipei's Tsung Hua Yang..

G. Pragnesh of India was taken to three sets by fellow Indian, Marlon Cholehu in the other 'semi'. Pragnesh won the first set (7-5) and conceded the second (5-6) and was leading 5-1 in the third when Cholehu retired hurt. India's Sweta Solanki entered the final of the girls singles beating Vishakha Sheoran in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) in one semi-final, while in the other, Russia's Ksenia Sidorova beat Thailand's Prariyawat Ratanakrong also in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).

The tournament will be continued today.
