Ratmalana 'A' champs again in Deaf Schools Softball Cricket Sixes

Ratmalana 'A' beat Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped, Thihariya 'A' by four wickets in the final of Deaf Schools Six-A-side Softball cricket tournament played at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa recently. The tourney was sponsored by Caltex Lubricants Lanka Limited.

In the final, Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped, made 38 runs for 2 wickets and the School for The Deaf Ratmalana made 39 for one wicket. This was the fourth successive win for Ratmalana 'A'.

The special awards were won by Manoj Priyantha (Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped) - Best Batsman, Upul Shantha (School for the Deaf Ratmalana 'A') - Best Bowler, Gayan Shantha (School for the Deaf Ratmalana 'A') - Best Fielder, Man of the final: Aruna Priyanka (School for the Deaf Ratmalana 'A').

1st Round: St. Joseph's School for the Deaf Ragama 'A' 102 for 2 wkts beat Sri Sudarshi School for the Deaf and Blind, Bandarawela 'A' 17 all out; Sivaraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa 'A' 24 for 4 wkts beat School for the Deaf, Ratmalana 23 all out, Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped, Thihariya 'A' 58 for 3 wickets beat Rohana School for the Deaf, Matara 'A' 53 all out, Senkadagala Deaf and Blind School Kandy 'A': 76 for 4 wkts beat Yasidera Deaf and Blind School, Balangoda 69 all out; Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped, Thihariya 'A' 92 for one wkt beat Rohana School for the Deaf Matara 'B' 54 all out.

Quarter finals: School for the Deaf Ratmalana 'A' 38 for 4 wkts beat St. Joseph's School for the Deaf Ragama 'A' 37 for 4 wkts, Sivaraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa 'A' 100 for 2 wkts beat Kumbukkana Deaf and Blind School, Monaragala 20 all out, Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped, Thihariya 'B' 57 for 4 wkts beat Senkadagala Deaf and Blind School, Kandy 56 all out; Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped, Thihariya 'A' 44 for 1 wkt beat St. Joseph's School's for the Deaf, Ragama 'B' 43 for 4 wkts.

Semi-Finals: School for the Deaf, Ratmalana 'A' 32 for no loss beat Sivaraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa 'A' 26 all out; Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped, Thihariya 'A' 72 for 2 wkts beat Islamic Centre for Physically Handicapped, Thihariya 'B' 26 all out.

Niraj de Mel - Chairman, Sri Lanka Tea Board was the chief guest and Shehan Perera - Group Board Manager, Caltex Lubricants Lanka Limited was the guest of honour.
