SLT group profit Rs. 1.37b in 1H, 2005

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) recorded a group turnover of Rs. 15.68 billion, up from Rs. 14.55 billion during the first half of 2005 compared to the corresponding six months of 2004, chairman Anil Obeyesekere has told shareholders.

Operational expenses for the six months in review amounts to Rs. 7.04 billion, up from Rs. 6.38 billion January-June 2004.

Profit for 1H 2005 was Rs. 1.37 billion.

EBITDA for the period in evaluation amounts to Rs. 8.13 billion, down from Rs. 8.16 for the corresponding six months of 2004.

Depreciation, for January-June 2005, in a brief review of the balance sheet shows Rs. 4.79 billion, a loss from Rs. 4.35 billion in the first half of last year.

EBIT stands at Rs. 3.3 billion, down from Rs. 3.8 billion during the related six months of 2004. Net interest income/(expenses) total Rs. 806 billion, as against Rs. 1,239 billion, a change of -35 percent compared to that of the first six months of 2005. Non. Ope. Inc./(expenses) have been computed at Rs. 47 billion for the first six months of this year, as against Rs. 59 billion for the corresponding six months of 2004.

For the first six months of 2005, Int'l Operations Levy (ITL) has been put at Rs. 599 billion, no such expense was incurred during the first six months of 2004.

Tax, for the group for the period in review is Rs. 608 billion and in the first six months of 2004, it was Rs. 930 billion.

EAT is Rs. 1,379 billion, while in the first six months of 2004, it was Rs. 1,704 billion. Obeyesekere said that SLT as a group continues to perform well at operational levels. However, due to the imposition of the ITL, the company had to make provision during the first half, which affected the group profits with a marginal decline of profits.
